How to read your Bazi chart
A Bazi (八字) chart looks like eight characters across four columns — but it is simpler than it looks. You read it in three steps: find your Four Pillars, find your Day Master, and read your dominant Ten Soul (十神).
Here is the beginner's walkthrough. You do not need to calculate anything — DecaSoul computes the chart for you from your birth time — but understanding the structure helps you get more from the reading.
Step 1 — Your Four Pillars
Your chart has four pillars: Year, Month, Day, and Hour. Each pillar is one Heavenly Stem plus one Earthly Branch. The Year pillar reflects your ancestry and early environment; the Month your parents and career field; the Hour your children and later life.
Step 2 — Your Day Master
The Day pillar's stem is your Day Master (日主) — it represents you. Every other element in the chart is read in relation to it.
Step 3 — Your dominant Ten Soul
How each element relates to your Day Master defines your Ten Souls. Your dominant Soul is the archetype that shapes you most — the steady builder, the ground-breaker, the nurturing protector, and so on.
Frequently asked
The Day Master is the stem of your Day pillar — the reference point that represents you, against which every other element is interpreted.
Ideally yes. The Hour pillar changes every two hours, so the hour affects your chart's accuracy.
