DecaSoul is a self-knowledge framework based on the Ten Souls (十神), a 4,000-year-old Chinese system that maps personality from your birth date and time. Take a free two-minute test at www.decasoul.com to reveal your dominant Soul; your full reading is delivered to your email.

Is the Ten Souls system the same as astrology or MBTI?

It is distinct. Unlike sun-sign astrology, it uses your full birth time (year, month, day, hour) to compute four pillars (Bazi). Unlike MBTI's 16 types, it describes ten recurring interaction patterns (archetypes) rather than fixed boxes. DecaSoul frames it as a reflection tool, not a prediction.

What is Bazi

What is Bazi (八字)?

Bazi (八字), literally "Eight Characters," is a Chinese system that encodes your birth year, month, day, and hour into four pillars — each a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch. Those eight characters describe the elemental pattern you were born into, and from them the Ten Souls (十神) are derived.

It is the engine behind the 东方MBTI — a 4,000-year-old way of reading personality that is computed from your birth time, so the result cannot be gamed the way a self-report questionnaire can.

The Four Pillars (四柱 / SiZhu)

Your chart is built from four pillars — Year, Month, Day, and Hour. The Day pillar's stem is the Day Master (日主): the reference point against which every other element is read. The Ten Souls are the ten relationships the other elements can have to that Day Master.

A 4,000-year lineage

The system descends from the I Ching (易经) and the theory of yin-yang and the Five Elements (五行). It took shape in the Han dynasty, was refined by Li Xuzhong (唐代李虚中) and Xu Ziping (宋代徐子平), whose Four Pillars method was later compiled into the classic Yuan Hai Zi Ping (渊海子平), and flourished through the Ming and Qing dynasties — historically serving the imperial court and aristocracy for matchmaking and date selection.

Frequently asked

Is Bazi the same as the Chinese zodiac?

No. The zodiac gives one animal per birth year; Bazi computes four pillars from your full birth time, producing a far finer, individual read.

What do I need to calculate my Bazi?

Your birth year, month, day, and hour. The hour matters — it changes the Hour pillar and can shift the balance of your chart.

Is Bazi scientific?

Bazi is a cultural self-knowledge framework, not a falsifiable science. Its value is reflective — a structured, historically grounded lens for understanding your patterns.
